The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Today I want to review one of my favorite books, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.
So, the story centers around a young shepherd, Santiago, who becomes discontent well with just taking care of sheep. He begins to have this reoccurring dream of a child appears to him seeking the treasure.
Eventually, his treasure hunt (according to him at that time) begins and here I can assure you all that it is much more than a journey of a location. It is the one of self-discovery.
Throughout his whole journey to find out the treasure, he comes across the eclectic cast of characters with whom he stays different lengths of time.
So at first, old fortune-teller lady, who encourages him to go to Egypt, at the edge of Pyramids where he will find the treasure.
Then a wise man, he also suggests him to do the same.
Early into his journey, he meets a king without a kingdom. He makes Santiago realized his “personal legend”.
Here I want to clarify that “Personal legend is a dream that your soul always wants to accomplish and you will get peace only after achieving it.”
So after listening from them, he sells his flocks and starts his journey from his hometown Spain to Egypt.
Then he encounters a thief who robs his savings but not his confidence, a crystal merchant and an Englishman in the middle of the journey. After that Santiago meets a mesmerizing beauty Fatima, the lady with whom he falls in love at the very first sight.
Finally, he meets the Great Alchemist himself with his help; he comes to know the soul of the world.
From everyone, Santiago experiences something new about himself, his quest and something about he desires from the bottom of his heart.
Basically, this book will teach us the value of spirituality, faith, hope and true love. It helps us to understand the importance of positivity towards life by the narration of the fascinating story of an ordinary boy with extraordinary beliefs.
So I want to conclude by saying that be positive, dream big, always follow your heart. Maybe you will have to face lots of obstacles but trust me; eventually, you will pursue your goal for sure.
