The departure of our favourite player is nothing new for us, who have been supporting Real Madrid since the middle of the last decade. Real bid farewell to the top three stars in their history in seven years of this decade. In tears, they said goodbye to Real in front of reporters. Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t even have that opportunity, and he left without anything in the middle of the World Cup. Sergio Ramos has had that chance. Yet Ramos’s departure is more emotional for Real fans than the previous two departures.

When Ramos came to Real, neither Madrid was his hometown nor he was a champion. At that moment, a nineteen years old boy had just won Raul, Zidane, Figo, Roberto Carlos, Beckham and Iker Cassius’ hearts. They all stood like a wall in front of Sergio Ramos. But Ramos tricked them and made a great goal against Real. That day, he mesmerised everyone. When the young boy approached the Sevilla president and said, ‘I want to be the captain of Sevilla; He laughed. After that, Ramos took a significant decision and came to Real to fulfil his dream.

Ramos didn’t know how to adapt to Real. Sergio Ramos has learnt every moment in Real’s jersey. He knew he had to make it to Real with a performance. That’s why he learned like an attentive student every moment. Sometimes from Raul, sometimes from Cassius. When Raul-Guti bid farewell to Real in 2009, the vice-captain’s responsibility fell to Sergio Ramos. It’s been only four years in Real Madrid’s jersey; in the meantime, the vice-captain’s commitment came to him. Ramos was not afraid; instead, he was determined to prove himself in that position. In the Spain team, he learned from Puyol in the national team how to become a leader and win the team with a cool head in danger.

In the meantime, Jose Mourinho came and changed Ramos completely. ‘Dirty Football’ was introduced by Ramos-Pepe. They are also ready to go to any extent for the team’s needs. Football is a game of mind as well; he learned that from Mourinho. That was the start of the journey of making Ramos a warrior. In the 2012-2013 season, Real lost in the semi-finals in a penalty shootout, and Sergio Ramos missed the penalty. That day, he cried a lot and promised Cassius that he would win another Champions League for Cassius. Losing in that game made him more focused, and it helped him be limitless.

Ramos kept his words. A year later, the opportunity came to Ramos. Bayern’s players were confident about the semi-final because it would happen on their home ground. But  Ramos went to the field and showed them how to play. With two goals in the space of 4 minutes, He showed them Ramos was no longer the previous Ramos, and this Ramos had come to win, a win for Real Madrid. In the final in Lisbon, 90 minutes were over, and the referee was about to whistle for the ball. We Madrid fans were losing our hope of winning the champion’s league this time. Then Sergio Ramos emerged. He scored a goal at Atletico Madrid’s injury-time and made the number ‘92.48’ remarkable for us.

Sergio Ramos says goodbye to Real Madrid after 16 years. The supporters turned around and saw that Ramos’ name was involved in Real’s achievements at his departure. Sergio Ramos, who won three Champions Leagues as the captain of Real Madrid, was no one at the Real Academy. He has become an absolute legend. Ramos was the captain of the Champions League in a row for 1099 days. When he came to Real, the rival Barcelona was taking away all the titles. At that time, Ramos became a pillar of the defence for Real Madrid. As a defender in Real’s jersey, he has scored 101 goals next to his name, which Iniesta-Zidane could not score for his club. I think that is something more than an achievement. The boy who ran on the field with Zidane has made every single impossible thing possible under his coaching.

Sergio Ramos, who entered Real at 19, came out with a dream at 35. This story is not about the conquering captain but also of the 19-year-old boy who promised the Sevilla president that one day he would captain the whole of Spain. I believe it is a story of making dreams into reality for the young generation.

The color changes over time. The white jersey on Sergio Ramos has turned blue. For Madrid supporters, that blue may seem like blue of pain. Paris Saint-Germain was able to get him on the board free of cost. Neither the champion league’s logo will be on his jersey nor the captain’s armband. Ramos has a different team jersey—it’s a little strange for football fans. PSG’s Sergio is set to prove himself again and take himself to a new peak. Sergio left Spain for France to take up the challenge. And that Sergio Ramos is now the ‘New Normal’ to everyone!
